Climate Change: Explanatory writing!

What is Climate Change? Climate Change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. These shifts may be natural, but since the 1800s, human activities have been the main driver of climate change, primarily due to the burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas, which produce heat-trapping gases.

Why is Climate Change serious? Climate change is a very serious thing, it has challenges not only for humans but for animals as well which makes it hard for them to live. People have been protesting, which is them trying to get peoples attention to help them stop climate change.

How can we STOP Climate Change? We can help by stopping the limit of climate change from the way we travel and what food we eat, Which can make a BIG difference to life if we all contribute to stop climate change. If we all contribute to stop Climate Change we will live a peaceful life and so will animals. No more people will have to live challenges nor will animals, which is a good thing.

Climate change is caused by greenhouse gases, which can lead to global warming and climate change. The world is warming faster than any point in recorded history. Climate change is caused by Producing food and powering buildings and much more which can affect us.

What veggies or fruits are good to eat and fight climate change? Whole grains, beans, and peas are one of the top best fruits to stop climate change and better for the environment. If we have a better environment it will be easier for people to live and for animals. It will also keep people nice and healthy for the day.

Climate change starts with greenhouse gases, a greenhouse is a small house with plants inside of it. Inside of the greenhouse is hot air, Meaning if hot air goes in it cant escape back out. That’s why greenhouses are so hot because they trap the hot air which is called gas trapping-heat.

Climate Change is when the Earth temperature gets warmer due to human activity, such as burning fossil fuels which releases greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. This causes things like sea levels to rise and more extreme weather events and change in our environment.

Moving to mars !?

Mars –

Our New Home?

Think carefully about each question, and use evidence from the texts to support your conclusions. Write your answers in full sentences, and use explanations and examples where needed.

Surface Level: Find the Answer in the Text

  1. What are some similarities between Earth and Mars?

They both have seasons and mountains there quite similar.

  1. Humans would find it challenging to live on Mars without what?

Food, shelter,Water. And even more all thats there is sand so it could easily get in ur eyes!

  1. What are the 3 things that the article says are making our planet Earth unlivable?

Pollution, Climate change, Overuse of natural uses.

Inference: Use Clues from the Text to Think of an Answer

  1. Explain in your own words why scientists are exploring the possibility of a move to Mars?

People wanna discover new things, Mars is just like earth they have no difference so if we moved there nothing would happen.

  1. What are some challenges that humans would face if there was a move to Mars?

People would have to find shelter, There isn’t any water there. Nor is there food there.

  1. Why do you think plants will be so important to the terraforming of Mars?

The large amount of carbon dioxide could be used by those planets.

Unfamiliar Words: Clarifying Language that may cause Misunderstanding

Word Sentence from the text Definition
Enthusiast has captured the imagination of scientists and space enthusiasts alike A person who is very interested in a particular activity or subject.
Potential Mars holds the potential for us to explore and perhaps even call it our new home someday Having or showing the capacity to develop into something in the future.
Abundant While Earth is beautiful and abundant, we must face the reality that our actions are harming our planet. Pollution,  Existing or available in large quantities plentiful.
Generate create sustainable habitats, and generate the resources necessary for survival. To produce or create something new.

Global Inferencing: Making Connections between the Text and the Wider World

Would you want to be one of the first people living on Mars?

Come up with solid reasons for your choice, and provide evidence, and examples to support your reasons.

Maybe not one of the first people, I’m not sure if I can last because there’s no shelter there or food. Food that I brang won’t last me a day, nor will my water.  It takes about 7 months,300 million miles, ( 480 million kilometres ) to get there. My food will be gone already. Which is one way of me not surviving. I don’t think I would ever want to move to mars earth is much better. Mars has desserts so sand can easily get into your eyes. There’s not much there that we have here so what’s the difference?

Climate Change – Response to Texts

Think carefully about each question, and use evidence from the texts to support your conclusions. Write your answers in full sentences, and use explanations and examples where needed.

  1. What are two of the largest sources of climate change? Explain what they are.

Source One: Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. These shifts may be natural, but since the 1800s.
Source Two: human activities have been the main driver of climate change, primarily due to the burning of fossil fuels (like coal, oil and gas), which produces heat-trapping gases.

  1. Explain what impact climate change is having on our environment. Include at least 2 examples.

Changes to Earth’s climate driven by increased human emissions of heat-trapping greenhouse gases are already having widespread effects on the environment.

  1. What are greenhouse gases?

Greenhouse gases are hot air that is trapped inside of the greenhouse. It has windows which allow hot air to go on but can’t escape which makes it extremely hot inside of the greenhouse.

  1. How does deforestation contribute to climate change?

glaciers and ice sheets are shrinking, river and lake ice is breaking up earlier, plant and animal geographic ranges are shifting, and plants and trees are blooming

  1. Why is it important to reduce our carbon footprint?

Reducing your carbon footprint is important because it mitigates the effects of global climate change, improves public health, boosts the global economy, and maintains biodiversity.

We’re supporting businesses to cut their carbon emissions, and helping to reduce their impact in a

  1. Do you think we, as New Zealanders, are doing a good job of slowing down climate change? Provide at least 2 reasons for your answer.

  2. Around one in three New Zealanders are worried about climate change.
